Classes for Pre-schools & Elementary Schools

Have a unique program where we stretch everyone’s imagination muscles!

Class Descriptions

CREATIVE DRAMATICS: (Pre-K through 2nd graders)

Creativity is the key as children learn basic theater skills through improvisational theater games, puppets, dress-up, tongue twisters, storytelling, songs and movement. Children will act out folk and fairy tales, poems and original stories.

IMPROVISATIONAL ACTING: (3 rd -6 th graders)

Ever watch “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and wonder, “How do they do that?!” Learn how to improvise! You’ll create exciting characters and develop original scenes and stories, all while learning valuable acting techniques. Dress-up, props, puppets and other surprises will help to spark everyone’s imagination.

MUSICAL THEATER: (3-6 th graders)

Students will learn basic breathing and vocal techniques in addition to character development and staging to help them bring popular Broadway show tunes to life. Costuming will be included.

In one 2-3 hour workshop, students will read, analyze, rehearse and perform fun age appropriate plays. Theater games and improvisational techniques along with the use of props and costuming will be included. Emphasis is on teamwork and a commitment to the production.

“Dear Ellen – I meant to write earlier and tell you how much my son enjoyed your class… We were a bit worried about sending him to a theater class because he was never a “performer”. However, he loved every minute of the class and is so hoping to do it again next year. You always kept him engaged and let him be creative. He was free to be any strange creature he wanted in your class because you made the environment so welcoming and safe. And I got to relax knowing that he was being cared for a nurtured. I would happily recommend the class to any parent, and especially other parents with special-needs kids.  He still asks on Saturday mornings if we are going to theater class. Hope to see you in the fall.

“My son, Ryan (4), loved having Ellen as a drama teacher at Good Shepherd Nursery School and missed her on the days she was not scheduled to be in class. She is a teacher who knows how to mix learning with age-appropriate drama play including creatively working : puppets, songs, movement, drama role playing into the mix, and just having a good time with kids.” – Renee P., Irvington, NY – parent – Good Shepherd Nursery School

“Ellen Flaks is a warm, nurturing  and genuine acting teacher who know how to work with little kids to build their drama talent and self-confidence while they have a lot of fun.
